The Soul of Harlem | Blvd Bistro
Last year, I set a personal goal for myself. I wanted to visit different restaurants in New York City and expand my taste palette. Naturally, we get in the habit of visiting places we are familiar with. When I started reviewing on Google as a Local Guide, I found myself learning so much about the city I call home. I used other people's reviews as a guide to places I wanted to try. About 90% of the time, the reviews were pretty accurate.
Blvd Bistro changed my perception of restaurant prepared Soul Food. Every plate is served with a little bit of love and happiness. Most importantly, the Shrimp & Grits at Blvd Bistro are probably the BEST YOU WILL EVER HAVE IN LIFE. Chef Carlos created a dish that will make you smile every time you take a bite. In the last 2 months, I've been back to Blvd Bistro about 3 times. I want to try the rest of the menu but as the shot clock whined down and the waitress asked me, "What are you having?", I immediately replied, "Can I have the shrimp & grits, please?" I can't help it! I'm hooked!
FULL DISCLOSURE: I've also ordered the catfish & grits (which is amazing) and I've sampled everyone's food that I have invited to dine there. I can say with confidence that every plate on the menu is delicious. Whether you're in the mood for pork chops, fish, ribs or a burger. Blvd Bistro has you covered. Before your meal, they start you off with these made to order fluffy, delicious, and hot biscuits that melt in your mouth on contact. Plain and simple... this is where you need to be for good food. You'll catch Chef Carlos walking around checking on everyone from time to time.
If you have taste for Soul Food then go to Blvd Bistro. Amy Ruth's and Melba's are not the only places serving up southern delicacies in Harlem. Generally, for brunch, there is a wait, but if you go for dinner you can usually grab a table. Blvd Bistro is an intimate restaurant nestled on the corner of 122nd & Lenox in Harlem.
